5/29/2010 - TRANSIT CENTER AT MANAS, Kyrgyzstan -- Every week, a member of the wing is selected as the Warrior of the Week. This individual is recognized based on outstanding performance, good conduct, work ethic, and most importantly, for a job well done.

Meet the Warrior of the Week. Tech. Sgt. Jerrod Blake is a 376th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron base defense operations controller deployed from the 174th Fighter Wing, Syracuse, N.Y. He hails from Cato, N.Y.

Here's what Sergeant Blake has to say about himself and his deployment to the Transit Center at Manas:

What do you do on a daily basis at Manas? My daily routine includes a 4 a.m. workout at the gym and then reporting for duty at 6 a.m. My shift ends at 7 p.m. and then I like to run 3 to 4 miles.

What do you enjoy about being at Manas? There are many things I have enjoyed while being deployed here at Manas. A few things that stand out in my mind have been helping some of the local children and schools. I also have enjoyed the ability to better myself.

Why did you choose to serve in the military? Since being a kid, I have wanted to serve my country. Democracy and freedom are important to the future of all people and I wanted to do my part.

How does what you do contribute to the GWOT mission? My job here is to keep all personnel and resources on the installation safe and secure which enables the other missions to be accomplished.

Family: I have been married for 12 years. I have 6 children ranging in age from 3 to 15.

Time at Manas: 4 months.

Time in military: 17 years.

Greatest accomplishment:
Having all healthy children.

Goals you want to achieve or meet while at Manas: Goals I will or have achieved here at Manas were to quit smoking and continue working on being in the best physical shape I have ever been in. I am also working on completing the Noncommissioned Officer Academy Correspondence Course.

Your best habit: I work too much and sometimes don't know when to stop (good and bad, depends on opinion).

Favorite Quote: "Always do what you ask of those you command."- Gen. George S. Patton

Favorite movies: Saw, Dawn of the Dead.

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her: My mother - she taught me integrity, honesty, and that there is always something good in everyone.

If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why: My mother. She unexpectedly passed away 2 years ago. I would like the chance to tell her the things that I should have told her every day.
