9/18/2010 - TRANSIT CENTER AT MANAS, Kyrgyzstan -- Every week, a member of the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing is selected as the Warrior of the Week. This individual is recognized based on outstanding performance, good conduct, work ethic, and most importantly, for a job well done.
Meet the Warrior of the Week. Staff Sgt. Yevgeniy Maksimov is a 376th Air Expeditionary Wing coalition coordinator and linguist deployed from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Fort Belvoir, VA. He hails from Dayton, Ohio.
Here's what Sergeant Maksimov has to say about himself and his deployment to the Transit Center at Manas.
What do you do on a daily basis at Manas? I provide interpretation and translation services for the Wing's leadership and coordinate other linguistic support on base.
What do you enjoy about being at Manas? The ability to sample local culture, nature and food. Also, the incredible amount of daily interactions with multitude of professionals from all sorts of organizations.
Why did you choose to serve in the military? I saw too many young men and women coming back from war with PTSD and I thought that my country can benefit from me taking their place and providing a shoulder of support and optimism.
How do you feel about your contributions to the Transit Center at Manas? Mainly, my job is to not be visible and allow normal operations to continue - just as if everyone was speaking English and it was a similar culture. Our office ensures that logistical support of the Transit Center is as smooth as possible, by minimizing any complications due to the language barrier.
Time at Manas: 5 months
Time in Military: 5 years
Greatest Accomplishment: Making my mom proud and God happy.
Goals you want to achieve or meet while at Manas: Eradicate the language barrier to continue operations at the Transit Center.
Hobbies: Travel
Your best best habit: To make fun of difficult situations.
Favorite Movies: Avatar, Patton, I Am Sam, Bounty Hunters
Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him or her? Senior Master Sgt. Henry Hayes, the 376th Expeditionary Mission Support Group first sergeant. He's always positive and if he doesn't have an answer he will find one. He puts other people before himself and he is absolutely fanatical about his job.
If you could spend one hour with any one person, who would it be and why? Michelle Pfeiffer - she's beautiful, talented, spiritual, kind, extraordinary, intelligent and unorthodox. |
