3/18/2011 - TRANSIT CENTER AT MANAS, Kyrgyzstan -- Every week, a member of the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing is selected as the Warrior of the Week. This individual is recognized based on outstanding performance, good conduct, work ethic, and most importantly, for a job well done.

Meet the Warrior of the Week. Staff Sgt. Bianca Barbir is a 376th Air Expeditionary Wing financial management accounting technician deployed from the 18th Comptroller Squadron at Kadena Air Base, Japan. She's international and doesn't claim a hometown, but she's lived in the Republic of Benin in West Africa, France, Houston and Chicago.

Here's what Sergeant Barbir has to say about herself and this deployment to the Transit Center at Manas.

What do you do on a daily basis at Manas? I enjoy having the opportunity to participate in Humanitarian Assistance programs. I have never been in a professional organization before, and here at Manas I have joined the 5/6 and really look forward to participating in the HA mission.

Why did you choose to serve in the military? I enjoy the camaraderie between the people that I work with, the local nationals, and seeing the impact that we have on the local communities. I also enjoyed the fact that I'm making a difference that will be written in our history.

How do you feel about your contributions to the Manas mission and continuing operations in the AOR? "Without the effective management of funds, every mission is doomed for failure." I contribute to the accountability of the funds that are allocated to the 376 AEW by Air Combat Command. I take pride in what I do here; although, I'm not out front fighting the war, I help different organizations get what they need to successfully contribute to the mission.

Family: a 10-year old son

Time at Manas: 6 weeks

Time in military: 8 years

Greatest accomplishment: Having my child

Goals you want to achieve or meet while at Manas: Get fit and take a course toward my Master of Business Administration degree.

Hobbies: Traveling, reading, dancing

Your best habit:  My best habit is to think "Win-Win". When everybody feels involved and included in a situation, there is a birth of trust and loyalty.

Favorite Quote:  "Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there." -Will Rogers

Favorite movies:
Pillow talk, The Titans, The Notebook, Casablanca and all "James Bond" movies.

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her:
I don't have a favorite mentor because I have learned and continue to learn from a lot of intelligent and sage people. I believe in synergy and have learned through my mentors that pro-activity is one of the keys for an effective life.

If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why:  I would love to spend one hour with Nelson Mandela, even though he is like most of us: vain, stubborn, and sometimes angry; he has this unwavering moral certitude and self-discipline that are not common in ordinary men. I would love to personally hear his story even if it is a fraction of it and how he survived all the maltreatments.
