9/17/2011 - TRANSIT CENTER AT MANAS, Kyrgyzstan -- Every week, a member of the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing is selected as the Warrior of the Week. This individual is recognized based on outstanding performance, good conduct, work ethic and most importantly, for a job well done.
Meet the Warrior of the Week -- Tech. Sgt. Shunna Flowers is a 376th Expeditionary Medical Group NCO in charge of emergency services deployed from Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. She is also a native of Louisville, Ala.
Here's what Flowers has to say about herself and her deployment.
What do you do on a daily basis at the Transit Center? I assist in providing medical services to Transit Center personnel.
What do you enjoy about being at the Transit Center? I enjoy being a member of the Gospel Praise team.
Why did you choose to serve in the military? I joined the Air Force to obtain structure and discipline.
How do you feel about your contributions to the Transit Center mission and current operations in the area of responsibility? I feel that my contribution is important because we ensure that our flyers, forward deployers and Transit Center personnel as a whole are fit to complete their mission.
Family: My husband, who is in the Army, and our daughter
Time at the Transit Center: 2 months
Time in military: 15 years
Greatest accomplishment: My greatest accomplishment is maintaining our home under multiple stressors during my husband's 365-day deployment last year.
Goals you want to achieve or meet while at the Transit Center: My main goal is to complete my Course 14.
Hobbies: I enjoy singing, baking and traveling.
Your best habit: My best habit is maintaining a calm demeanor. This mechanism of control helps me to remain level headed in stressful situations.
Favorite quote: My favorite quote is "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," Philippians 4:13.
Favorite movies: My favorite movies are "The Five Heartbeats" and "The Color Purple."
Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her: My mentor is my husband, James. He motivates me and helps to keep me focused on life in general, my career and my goals.
If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why: If I could spend one hour with any person it would be my daughter, Taylor, because I missed her first day of kindergarten.
